The South Coast has the warmest, safest swimming beaches in the country and, half an hour inland, a gorge with a zipline strung across it. Three nights lets you do both properly instead of choosing. Margate is the base — lifeguarded beach, promenade, and everything within reach.

Getting there — your choice
Let us drive. Return transfer from Durban plus the inland runs to Lake Eland and Riverbend. This route is also an easy self-drive on good roads if you would rather have your own car for beach days.

Your base
A family self-catering apartment or hotel unit in Margate or Ramsgate, close to the main beach. Two-bedroom units available. Breakfast optional.
Activities — all within easy reach
- Margate main beach — Lifeguarded, blue-flag, with a tidal pool and a promenade. (On your doorstep)
- Lake Eland Game Reserve — A 90 m-high suspension bridge, a zipline circuit and game viewing from your own car. (30 min drive)
- Uvongo Falls and beach — A waterfall dropping into a lagoon behind the beach. Excellent for children. (10 min drive)
- Riverbend Crocodile Farm — Feeding demonstrations and a snake park. (20 min drive)
- Sardine Run (June–July) — If you time it right, one of the great wildlife events on earth, right off the beach. (Seasonal, on the beach)
