The original slow weekend
The Midlands Meander is a network of farm studios, breweries, cheesemakers, potters and country pubs strung across the green hills between Howick and Mooi River. There is no itinerary in the usual sense — the point is to drift between them. What we have built in is the accommodation, the transfers, and the one thing everyone should see: the Nelson Mandela Capture Site.

Getting there — your choice
Let us drive. Return transfer plus a driver on the Saturday for the Meander itself — which matters, because most of the good stops sell wine, gin or beer.
Self-drive. Prefer your own car? We drop the transport element and adjust the package accordingly — you still get the accommodation, the activities and the full itinerary, plus directions and our local phone support for the whole trip.
Stay & Play
Your base
A country cottage or double room at a Midlands farm guesthouse near Nottingham Road or Curry’s Post — fireplace, big breakfast, and probably a dog. Breakfast included.
Activities — all within easy reach
- The Midlands Meander route — Six signposted routes linking studios, farm stalls, cheesemakers and craft breweries. (All around you)
- Nelson Mandela Capture Site — The sculpture and museum at the spot where Mandela was arrested in 1962. Do not skip it. (20 min drive)
- Howick Falls — A 95 m waterfall in the middle of town, with a viewing platform and a craft market. (20 min drive)
- Karkloof Canopy Tour — Ziplines through indigenous forest, if you want a burst of adrenaline in an otherwise gentle weekend. (30 min drive)
- Trout fishing — Fly fishing on the Mooi and stocked farm dams. Gear hire available locally. (Nearby)
